ten u.s. sailors detained by the iranian revolutionary guard. >> we're talking about on a training mission in two small boats then one of the vessels became disabled and drifted into iranian waters. the revolutionary guard apprehended them. some tense hours followed. >> but this morning a top iranian navy official said their investigation had determined that the american ship had encountered mechanical trouble. the sailors are expected to be transferred to a u.s. ship sometime today. >> and more on that as we get it. in the meantime, there i ialso breaking news overnight in the crisis with north korea. the south has just fired shots at a north korean drone that crossed the border. tension has been high since last week when thnorth claimed it had tested a hydrogen bomb. president obama did not mention the u.s. sailors or north korea during last night's state of the union address, but

louisiana. kendis and reena, back to you. >> we also know that the president announced a new moon shot at keuriging cancer. what can you tell us about that? >> reporter: it's similar to when americans firsstepped foot on the moon. president obama essentially saying if that was possible, it's possible to find a cure for cancer, so president obama says he's putting vice president joe biden in charge of carrying out the moon shot to cure cancer that biden called for following his son's death. biden has vowed to spend his next 15 months in office fighting for increased funding for research and development, and he says this is a personal issue after the loss of his son, beau, to brain cancer, which is why president obama says joe is now in charge of mission control. back to you. >> and the president did keep it short, roughly 58 minutes there, stephanie, thanks. well, most of the presidential candidates were live tweeting during president obama's final state of the union address. >> the reactions fell predictably along party lines. hillary clinton congratulated

health care coverage vowing not to put their health care into the hands of republicans. >> jeb bush pointed out that middle class income has declined $2,000 under president obama. then donald trump simply said, the speech is really boring, slow, lethargic, very hard to watch. >> stay with abc news for the latest on his state of the union address. later in "the pulse," the e rst lady's gorgeous s ess and john kerry's reaction when someone asked the secretary of state, who are you wearing. let's return to the campaign trail and hillary clinton facing some new trouble just as she releases a new campaign ad. a new abc news/"washington post" poll finds clinton is sliding even further behind bernie sanders and this is iowa by five percentage points. it comes as she release ss her new ad spotlighting her commitment with standing with president obama and fighting the gun lobby. those ads will go full steam ahead today in iowa and new hampshire and nationally, as well, on cable. in the meantime, in the gop

faced protesters in new hampshire who managed to get all the way on stage. he also came under fresh attack from donald trump who circulated an op-ed from a top harvard law professor saying, there are real questions about whether cruz is a natural born citizen. ted cruz is in a dead heat with trump in iowa but lags far behind in new hampshire. new developments following that deadly isis attack on a popular tourist area in turkey. reports say police have detained three russians connected with isis. the suspects were allegedly in contact with isis fighters in conflict zones and had provided logistical support to the group. yesterday's attack in istanbul killed ten. most of them were german tourists. back to this country and lake-effect snow in western new york has moved on but more is on the way. the city of buffalo only got a few inches but south of there as much as two feet of snow fell in some spots. all major highways were open again overnight. at least one fatality is reported.

w we've got some new developments in the worsening water crisis plaguing flint, michigan. >> the governor activated the national guard to deliver water and filters starting inlint this morning. volunteers accompanied by state troopers and state deputies went door-to-door with bottled water. tap water became contaminated with too much lead after it switched its drinking water supply in an effort to save money. live some stunning new video from inside the takedown of el chapo, theeotorious drug lord. it shows the marines wearing body camera descending on his compound from helicopters. this is all in his mountain hideout. just a day after that meeting with actor sean penn, el chapo wasn't there, but for three months the marines circlcl, tracking penn and the mexican actress who helped arrange the meeting. finally last week, they got their man. fire crews in oakland, california, worked for hours

our r p stories this morning, ten u.s. sailors on two small boats are expected to be released from iranian custody later today. they were detained after one of their boats became disabled in the persian gulf. president obama vowed protecting americans from terrorists is priority number one in his final state of the union address last night. he also warned that america cannot move forward until we, quote, fix our politics. lake-effect snow in the northeast will dump up to another two feet of snow on top of the 30 inches that's already on the ground in some parts. areas of western new york could end up with a total of four to five feet. elsewhere, northern california, oregon and washington could see another 2 inches of rain with snow in the sierra and northern rockies. dry and chilly across the south. and as we watch the president's final state of the union address last night, you can't help but thinking there's a lot mo gray in his hair now than, say, seven, eight years
